Last year, 200 people died in fires in their home. You are four times more likely to die in a fire in the home if there are no working smoke alarms.
It’s not good enough to just have smoke alarms. It’s imperative that they work, and you can only be sure they work by testing them.
As the clocks go forward on Sunday 30 March, the government’s fire safety campaign, Fire Kills, is launching its latest campaign, the Tick Tock Test, to encourage people to test their smoke alarms on the 1st of every month.
A major social media campaign is underway with some great videos on its YouTube channel on the theme: No matter how you do it, test your smoke alarm on the 1st of every month.
It also has a Facebook page and a Twitter account.
If you want get involved, Fire Kills has free resources on hand. Please email James Webb at Fire Kills for more information.
