The situation in Ukraine has shocked the world, resulting in intense media coverage on television, print and social media platforms.
Inevitably, children and young people may be exposed to images and information about the situation that they may find disturbing or they may simply overhear adults talking about it. As a result, they may have concerns or fears or may just want to ask questions to try to understand what is happening and why.
It’s clearly a difficult topic to talk about but help is available if you’re worried about having discussions in your family or school. UNICEF and Save the Children both have advice and guidance on their websites about how to talk to children about war and conflict and you can find it here –
