After much searching, we finally found a new home for Trafford ‘Crucial Crew’ and the change of venue has gone down very well with children, teachers and participating agencies.  Our sincere thanks go to Chair, Inigo Bridle, and the team at Trafford MVRFCC for being so welcoming and friendly to everyone involved in this year’s event.

With the support of Trafford MV, approximately 2,000 Year 6 children, from 44 local primary schools across the borough were able to take part in a series of interactive safety workshops, which ran from the 12th to the 30th of January 2026.

Coordinated by Child Safety Media in partnership with Greater Manchester Police, this year’s workshops aimed to teach local children about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as Personal Safety (avoiding hazardous situations, raising awareness of street robbery, on-line safety, hate crime, knife crime); TREDS (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship); Road Safety (providing road safety advice for children, as pedestrians and cyclists, including safe places to cross the road and the need to wear cycle helmets and why seat belts should always be worn); Commuter Safety (do’s and don’ts on the Metrolink Network, ticket avoidance/ consequences, identifying incidents to staff); Rail Safety (using the railway environment safely, platform safety – yellow line and air turbulence, dangers of electricity – third rail and overhead line equipment, consequences of railway crime – trespass, graffiti, vandalism, object throwing); Healthy relationships (to include misogyny and letting young people know where to get support and advice); County Lines (providing details of the specialized support that Catch22 provides to children and young people that may be exploited by county lines drug gangs); You be the Magistrate! (educating children on the dangers and potential criminal consequences of cyberbullying, encouraging digital responsibility among young people).

The sessions, which gave pupils the unique opportunity to learn valuable skills from the professionals, through practical demonstrations and discussions in real life situations, were delivered by the following local agencies: Greater Manchester Police, Trafford Metrovicks Rugby Club/TryIt Rugby, One Trafford’s Traffic and Road Safety Team, the TravelSafe Partnership, British Transport Police, Trafford MBC’s Youth Engagement Service, Catch22 and GMAA Magistrates in the Community.
