Today, 2 April, saw our Elmbridge ‘Junior Citizen’ event draw to a close. Held at the revered Sandown Park Racecourse, this event played host to approximately 1,000 year 6 pupils from local schools, giving them the opportunity to participate in a number of interactive safety workshops. These children are at an important stage in their lives as they prepare to transition from primary to secondary school.
The workshops, presented by South East Coast Ambulance Service, Children and Family Health Surrey (School Nurses), Network Rail/ South Western Railway/ British Transport Police, Surbiton Hockey Club, Places for People Leisure and Oxshott Net Zero, covered a wide range of topics designed to help the pupils learn vital life skills, become more risk aware and stay healthy and safe in the future. In addition to thanking all of the participating agencies, we would also like to thank sponsors the Jockey Club and the Elmbridge Community and Safety Partnership, for without their support this vital educational project would not have been possible.
Last week, we were honoured to welcome the Mayor of Elmbridge, Councillor Neil Houston to our Showcase Day. The Mayor was joined by a number of council colleagues, that included the Portfolio Holder for Community Safety – Councillor Kirsty Hewens, Climate Change Programme Lead – Jamie Pourier-Benham, Policy Manager – Leandra Hickson-Leigh and Head of Policy & Performance – Annabel Crouch.
