On Friday, 20th June, we held a VIP Day for the second of our Stevenage ‘Crucial Crew’ events at Stevenage Football Club’s Lamex Stadium (provided courtesy of Chairman, Phil Wallace).
We were honoured to be joined by Ian Pigott OBE DL; Deputy Mayor, Councillor Lloyd Briscoe; Police and Crime Commissioner, Jonathan Ash-Edwards; Assistant Chief Constable Nick Caveney, and Inspector Matt McGinnigle, Hertfordshire Constabulary; Jordan Johnson, Local Area Manager, East of England Ambulance Service; Catherine Davies, Community Safety Team, Stevenage Borough Council and Sharon Brown, Chairperson, Stevenage Community Trust.
During their visit, our guests viewed a series of interactive safety workshops ‘through the eyes of a child’ and showed their support for the vital work that all participating agencies provide at our events. We would like to thank all our VIP guests for taking time from their busy schedules to be with us.
This year, approximately 1,000 Year 6 children from local primary schools across the borough have taken part in this ‘Crucial Crew’ scheme, and been taught about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as knife crime, staying safe online, fire safety, health & wellbeing and the importance of physical activity, safety on the railways and first aid.
The event, which ran from Monday, 9th June to Friday, 20th June 2025, included sessions from Hertfordshire Constabulary (both their local Safer Neighbourhood and Child Criminal Exploitation teams), Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Hertfordshire Football Association, British Transport Police and East of England Ambulance Service. Thanks as always to everyone who worked so hard to make the event a great success.
Special thanks go to Jennie Cairns, Joe Goude and Luke Wilkins for making us all very welcome at Stevenage FC again and to Stevenage Community Trust and Clarion Futures for also sponsoring this vital safety education programme.
