Tuesday, saw our Elmbridge ‘Junior Citizen’ child safety event draw to a close.
Held at the prestigious Eclipse Pavilion, with wonderful views across the Sandown Park Racecourse in Esher, the event played host to approximately 1,000 Year 6 pupils from local primary schools across the borough. These pupils are at an important stage in their lives as they prepare to transition from primary to secondary school. Running from Monday, 12th January to Tuesday 20th January 2025, this event provided the children with the opportunity to participate in a number of interactive safety workshops.
The venue for the event was provided courtesy of the Jockey Club, with special thanks going to General Manager, Sarah Drabwell, who was supported by Senior Event Manager, Claire Andrews and the Sandown Park Racecourse team, who all made us very welcome. Our thanks must also go to Elmbridge Community and Safety Partnership, who kindly sponsored the event too.
Participating Agencies
Workshops this year, covering a range of topics designed to help the pupils to stay safe in the future, were presented by South East Coast Ambulance Service, Surrey Child and Family Health (School Nurses), Network Rail/ South Western Railway/ British Transport Police, Thames Basin Heaths Partnership, Places for People Leisure and Take the JUMP. We could not host these events without the help and support of our Emergency Service and partner agencies, so our appreciation goes out to all those participating. Thanks also to our on-site event coordinators Gary Perks and Aggie Tikoisuva (with the support of Wendy Roberts).
On Friday, 16 January, we had a VIP Day and were honoured to welcome the High Sheriff of Surrey, Peter Cluff and his wife, Suzanne, the Mayor of Elmbridge, Cllr Steve Bax, Cllr Kirsty Hewens and Sarah Lyles, PSHE Education, Wellbeing & Surrey Healthy Schools Lead at Surrey County Council, who all witnessed the safety education workshops, along with pupils and teachers from Chandlers Field Primary School in West Molesey and Cranmere Primary School in Esher.
