Friday, 16 October saw our 2026 Crucial Crewe event draw to a close. Held at Crewe Alexandra Football Club’s Railwaymen Bar and Lounge, the event played host to approximately 1,250 Year 6 pupils from 34 local schools giving them the opportunity to participate in a number of interactive safety workshops. These Year 6 pupils are at an important stage in their lives as they prepare to transition from primary to secondary school.
The workshops were presented by Cheshire Constabulary, SP Energy Networks, CGL – Cheshire East (Young Persons Substance Misuse Service), 0 – 19 School Nursing Cheshire East, Cheshire East Waste and Recycling Engagement team and Magistrates in the Community, who covered a range of topics designed to help the pupils to stay safe in the future. In addition to thanking our workshops teams, we would like to thank our main sponsor, BAE Systems, for their kind sponsorship this year and for making the event possible again. We would also like to thank Crewe Town Council, Cheshire Crimebeat and SP Energy Networks for their continued support, and acknowledge Tia Hickson and her colleagues at Crewe Alexandra FC, for making us all very welcome.
This Crucial Crewe scheme has taught children about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as personal safety, Internet safety, anti-social behavior, crime & consequences, drug and alcohol awareness, vaping and healthy lifestyles, emotional well-being, the transition to secondary education, electrical safety, waste & recycling and ‘You be the Magistrate’ (cyberbullying and encouraging digital responsibility).
On Tuesday, 13 October (our VIP Day), we were honoured to welcome the following guests to the event – the Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Stuart Mackay; Cllr Sally Graham; Michael Trevor-Barnston & Mark Watson MBE from Cheshire Crimebeat; Chief Inspector Matt Sanders & Inspector Jason Murray, Crewe LPU, Cheshire Constabulary; Vicky Davies & Liz Wilson, Thriving & Prevention Team, Cheshire East Council. During their visit, our guests viewed proceedings ‘through the eyes of a child’ and showed their support for the vital work that all participating agencies provide at our events. In attendance on the day were children from Mablins Lane Community Primary School, who thoroughly enjoying themselves!
