Here are some pictures from our recent Stevenage Crucial Crew event that ran from Monday, 8th June to Friday, 19th July 2026 (10 weekdays) at Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Longfield Training Centre, Longfield, Hitchin Road, Stevenage SG1 4AE
The ‘Crucial Crew’ scheme, aims to teach children about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as personal safety, staying safe online, knife crime, fire safety, home safety, safeguarding, health & wellbeing, the pros and cons of gaming, and first aid (learning how to save a life; DRABC; basic life support – CPR; recovery position). making healthy choices, avoiding peer pressure and how to understand emotions and have strategy’s to keep calm and avoid conflicts.
Over 800 Year 6 children (10-11 Year Olds) from 20 local primary schools across the boroughs took part in a series of interactive safety workshops with agencies including; Stevenage Borough Council, Domestic Abuse Team, promoting Healthy relationships, Hertfordshire Constabulary (Local Safer Neighbourhood Team), Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service, East of England Ambulance Service, how to save a life, British Transport Police, traveling safely and avoiding dangers in and around the railway networks, and Stevenage FC, the importance of exercise and a healthy diet.
The event would not have happened without key sponsor, Stevenage Borough Council, Stevenage Community Trust and the very kind support of Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue, who provided the venue for free and whose staff made us all really welcome and went out of their way to ensure that the event ran smoothly – thank you!
