Suffering burns can be a horrendous experience, often requiring skin grafts and other corrective procedures, and recovery can be a long process. Figures from the Children’s Burns Trust for October 2018 highlight the particular danger to children and young people.

In that month alone, 479 children suffered burns, and this only relates to serious burns and scalds and does not include the thousands seen by A & E Departments.

BREAKDOWN OF BURNS AND SCALDS BY AGE:

0 – 2 years: 233

2 – 4 years: 119

5 – 14 years: 110

5 – 14 years: 110

15 – 19 years: 17

These figures show that younger children are more likely to be involved in an incident resulting in burns, so it’s vital to make sure they are kept away from potential sources of injury. It can happen in seconds!!
