Here’s some information and photos from our recent ‘Crucial Crewe’ child safety event which ran between Tuesday, 5th October and Tuesday, 12th October 2021 (inclusive) and was a great success. The venue was Crewe Alexandra Football Club, Mornflake Stadium, Gresty Road, Crewe CW2 6EB, and our on-site coordinators were Liz Stanton MBE and Mark Tasker.

The participating agencies were: Cheshire Police, British Transport Police, Gist, SP Energy Networks, CGL Cheshire East – Young Person’s Substance Misuse Service, Canal & River Trust, with transportation provided by Ladyline Coaches.

Approximately 750 Year 6 children (10-11-Year-Olds) from 23 local primary schools across the borough took part in a series of interactive safety workshops covering topics such as Personal Safety, Internet Safety and Social Media, Road Safety, Electrical Safety, Railway Safety, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, and Water Safety.

Change, Grow, Live (CGL Cheshire East) were a new addition to our participating agencies this year and provided an interactive session where children were given important information regarding ‘drugs, alcohol and wellbeing’, by their Young Persons Team.

The event would not have happened without the generous support of Crewe Town Council and local businesses, namely the Archibald Bathgate Group, SP Energy Networks, Radius Payment Solutions and the Alex Timpson Trust. We would also like to thank Leanne Edmonds and her colleagues at Crewe Alexandra Football Club, who made us very welcome.

In September, Secondary schools were provided with access to a new, fully digital, online ‘Junior Life Skills’ resource package that includes lesson plans for the teachers. Our aim is to not only ensure that local Primary schools receive resources, but also Secondary schools too (care of the relevant Head of Year 7/Transition Lead) so that the children associated with this year’s Junior Citizen event have access to child safety educational resources for a full year.
