The team here at Child Safety Media are feeling very happy – or as the saying goes ‘Over the Moon’!!. When Covid started, and all the regulations came into play, we had to suspend our Junior Citizen and Crucial Crew events which of course was the right thing to do.
Our events are so successful because they allow pupils to attend in-person and have face to face interaction with the fantastic partner agencies that we work with. Not only do our pupils learn some important safety lessons, but they do so in a safe environment. These interactions also help the development of their confidence and interpersonal skills. Not having the buzz that the events bring was obviously difficult and along with our partners, we continued to share messages via social media, etc.
You’ll therefore understand why we are incredibly happy that we have now been able to resume events. We are working within the current guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved and our risk assessment procedures reflect this.
So here are some photos from our Epsom and Ewell Junior Citizen event at the famous Epsom Downs racecourse. Our partners for this event were Surrey Police, RNLI, British Transport Police / Network Rail, Amey, Hope Uk, and Surrey Fire & Rescue Service. Scenarios covered topics such as Personal Safety, Internet Safety, Water Safety, Railway Safety, Recycling, Drug & Alcohol Awareness and Fire Safety. All children that participate received a copy of Child Safety Media’s new, A4, full-colour, 92-page ‘Junior Life Skills’ handbook.
The event ran from Monday, 21st to Monday, 28th June 2021 during which time over 700 Year 6 children (age 10-11) from local primary schools attended.
A big ‘shout out’ to our sponsors. Without the generous support of Atkins (main sponsor), and Toyota (GB) Plc, who provided the core funding for the event, and Simon Durrant and his team at the Jockey Club, this would not have been possible. And of course, our on-site coordinators Gary Perks and Wendy Roberts and the lovely people at Hardings Coaches who provided transport.
